Conducting world-leading research to enable accelerated transitions to a more sustainable food system
We are leveraging interdisciplinary expertise to address food and nutrition challenges facing a growing world population.
One of the greatest challenges of our time is to provide the growing world population with healthy and nutritious food without exacerbating the climate emergency. Transformation of the global food system towards more sustainable and equitable outcomes is urgently required and can only be achieved by a systems decision approach, combining technological advancement with systemic behavioural change.
Our interdisciplinary expertise in food systems research across the island of Ireland places us in a unique position to address these challenges and develop evidence-based solutions that will help to transform food systems internationally and place Irish research at the forefront in addressing these challenges.
Food-I is undertaking a core research programme across four central platforms, conducting translational research spanning from food production to public health.
Using model foods and ingredients to address specific societal challenges, Food-I will develop innovative techniques across the platforms using interdisciplinary approaches to provide end-to-end solutions from soil to society.
